IPC - Freezing Point Depression Lab

Image
IPC students enjoyed learning about how NaCl (rock salt) affects the freezing point of ice in our Freezing Point Depression Lab. Students had to hypothesize what would happen to the temperature of the ice in the zip-lock baggie after a set amount of time. Time and temperature were recorded and a graph was created to see what happened to the temperature. In the end, we ended up with a sweet treat - a bowl of ice cream.

2nd graders are working on their tall tale scripts and props in partners.  They will be presenting to the rest of the class tomorrow!

IPC - Identifying Ionic and Covalent Compunds

Image
In our chemistry portion of  IPC, students did did a lab where they  conducted tests on the physical properties of different compounds and compile data enabling them to classify the compounds as ionic or covalent. Students determined solubility, conductivity and melting point of four unknown substances. Based on their observations, students were able to determine which substance(s) were Ionic compounds and which substances where Covalent compounds.
